This CD-Rom project was done completely on an Atari computer!!!!! My system details are as
follows:
Stock Falcon 030 at 16 MHz.(By the time people read this I will have a CT60 running at 100 MHz.)
Eclipse with a 4 MB ATI PCI Graphic Card
84 meg IDE internal boot drive (Stock)
40 GB IDE 7200 RPM Maxtor Hard drive
4.3 GB SCSI 7200 RPM Seagate Hard drive
24X SCSI Cyberdrive CD-Rom
8X2X20 SCSI Smart and Friendly CD-RW Burner
I have an amplified subwoofer speaker system to play MP3s with!!!! I run Magic 6.10 and
Jinnee 2.5 with NVDI and FVDI for the GC. I also use Emailer and CAB 2.8. I have many other
programs to numerous to list.
We started this project to help generate revenue for the SPACE club. Hopefully all the time put
into this project will not have been wasted. This CD-Rom was put together by an Atarian for Atarians.
I believe in pushing my computer to the limits, as you can tell with the hardware hooked to it.
This CD-Rom was burnt in 8X speed!!!!! You say, "How is that possible on a stock Falcon030???"
I first saved the nearly 660 floppy disks each individually in there own folders. Then I created
an CD_image.dat file with the help of my cd-burning software. Once this image is created (takes
10-20 minutes initially depending on how many megs is being burnt). I can burn in 8X speed and
it only takes 5 minutes or less with around 550 megs!!! The nice thing about creating that
cd_image.dat file is, as long as I do not add or delete anything from that partition (which I will
not since it is for the SPACE club) I can leave the image right there on the SPACE partition and
reburn at anytime a cd for the SPACE club at 8X!!!!
